I was invited along to Springwater Golf Club to join them on their charity competition day. I hadn’t been to Springwater before, but will certainly be back. The clubhouse was lovely, welcoming and the views are stunning. I’m not a golfer, but I was told by many of the golfers that day that they had thoroughly enjoyed the course. It looked so nice I may be tempted to take a lesson….Many congratulations to the club on their new “Seve Suite” (which was officially opened on the same day). I’m sure it will be a very popular venue. On a final note, the Sunday dinner was excellent and extremely good value for money. Great coffee too!

Hidden gem is absolutely right. Lovely, unpretentious, friendly, non-snobby golf course. Some wonderful holes, up and down, sloping fairways, occasional water. Not particularly long, but really challenging. What on earth do you do for your second shot on the 4th? Some wonderful par 3s, especially the last two, with the par 3 18th offering you a classic challenge. You know you should lay up to the right, but, hey, how can you resist going over the water for the green?
Only negative is that the greens weren’t great when I played in September 2016. But, if you are playing in the autumn, bring a spare plastic bag – they have the most wonderful collection of apple trees (Bramleys, Golden Delicious, and lots of others I was unable to identify), all laden with fruit – oh – and a medlar. (Go on, look up the verb to blet…)
Going back next week for more apples (and to try and actually get over the water on the 18th).

Having played in the Springwater charity day which was held on the 3rd September, I would like to thank the club for a fantastic day, and it was a pleasure to play in such a well ran event. A big thanks to Carl Morgan for inviting me to play, it was well worth the journey down from Edinburgh.. Looking forward to the next one, and well done to all the staff for a great days golfing. Big thanks Kevin
